LIFE NAdapta promotes an innovative study to improve the understanding of trickling filters functioning

30-05-2019

Most of the waste water treatment plants in the region of Navarra have trickling filters as biological treatment, since they are robust, efficient systems with low energy requirements. However, their functioning has not been completely modelled before. The tool used will be mathematical modelling with the WEST platform.

The main objective is to advance in the knowledge of the operation of the trickling filter as part of the action C2.1 "Development of an early warning system for possible environmental emergencies produced in wastewater treatment plants" of LIFE NAdapta. In this way, it will be possible to know the influence of the operating conditions such as temperature, hydraulic load, organic load, cleaning frequency, etc. and thus be able to establish the best action plans to face situations that may put at risk compliance with the authorised discharge limits.
