Navarra will measure climate change through two viewers that will monitor climate variability

The new tools from the European project LIFE NAdapta and KLINa will allow gathering relevant information in order to achieve goals regarding greenhouse gas emissions reduction or adaptive capacity

The Regional Minister for Rural Development and Environment, Itziar Gomez, presented this morning the new tools to monitor climate change incidence in the Region of Navarra. The viewers of the European Project LIFE NAdapta and KLINa, the Climate Change Roadmap of Navarra, will allow monitoring the evolution of climate parameters, compliance with greenhouse gas emissions targets and adaptive capacity.

Rafa Alday, technician from Gestión Ambiental de Navarra (GAN), and Xabier Velasco, in charge of the Navarra Territorial Observatory, LURSAREA-Navarra Territorial and Sustainability Agency section (NASUVINSA), joined the Minister in the presentation.

The LIFE NADAPTA viewer displays online relevant information about climate change-linked parameters in Navarra, such as temperature and rainfall evolution, annual evolution of flood damages, water consumption per capita, forest fires surface and yield variations of the main crops.

Furthermore, the KLINa viewer, framed within the Climate Change Roadmap of Navarra, offers data about Greenhouse Gas Emissions in electricity generation, energy consumption in the industrial sector, transport, residential and services, primary sector and the waste sector. It must be highlighted that KLINa Roadmap offers the possibility to monitor indicators that are considered as strategic for climate change mitigation and adaptation through a dashboard that puts together mitigation and adaptation indicators and relevant conclusions of sectorial results.

Both tools provide relevant information to direct the main sectorial strategies towards a decarbonised and climate change resilient Navarra.
