El Instituto de Hidráulica Ambiental de la Universidad de Cantabria (IH Cantabria) hosted on June 19 and 20, 2023, the International Research Symposium "Climate Change Adaptation in the Coastal Built Environment", n international event planned inside of the Erasmus + BEACON project (Built Environment leArning for Climate adaptation, or "Learning to adjust to climate change in the built environment" in Spanish), which aims to contribute to responding to the need to develop and implement specific and tangible adaptation measures, ensuring their effectiveness and response in the most vulnerable built areas and the industrial and real estate sectors.

LIFE-IP NAdapta-CC presentation at the event

Miguel Ángel González Moreno, technician of the coordination team and responsible for communication in LIFE-IP NAdapta-CC in the Circular Economy and Climate Change Service of the Government of Navarra, oversaw exposing. His presentation began with a contextualization of the work on climate change carried out by Navarra, with special attention to the project, which he described.

After that, focused on the communication file, he based the talk on three pillars: official press releases that give rise to most of the impacts in the media; the websites and social networks of both the project itself and the consortium, and finally, the participation and implementation of events and training.

In conclusion, Gonzalez indicated that, despite the difficulty of not having a magic recipe to achieve impacts of interest, it is interesting to disseminate certain topics at key moments when they have an impact on society and not at any time. In addition, the knowledge and results of the project should be brought closer with examples of proximity, as this not only achieves a greater impact but also a better understanding.

Networking for LIFE-IP NAdapta-CC

In addition, part of the coordination team of the Government of Navarra that went to Santander (Isaías Bautista Sanz, project coordinator, and the technicians of the Circular Economy and Climate Change Service: Itziar Almarcegui Artieda and the aforementioned Miguel Ángel) took the opportunity to learn about other projects and activities that are being carried out in other parts of the world in the field of adaptation to climate change.

Finally, one of the most relevant tasks carried out was also to establish contact with some of the participants to obtain synergies with their projects and research, as well as the search for possible collaborations in the future.
