Working Group on Impacts and Adaptation (WGIA)

Collaboration in the WGIA since the LIFE-IP NAdapta-CC project in Navarre.

The WGIA is a technical exchange forum that brings together departments from the General State Administration and the autonomous communities, with the general objective of coordinating and integrating the various climate change adaptation strategies and plans developed at the national and regional levels in Spain.

The main functions of the WGIA include:

Periodically sharing information on international and European adaptation policies.
Facilitating the exchange of information on initiatives and experiences developed by different administrations in the field of climate change adaptation within their respective competencies.
Supporting the technical analysis of public adaptation policies.
Generating and collecting ideas and suggestions to improve public adaptation policies and measures.

Within the WGIA, thematic working groups may be established to explore in depth specific topics of particular interest or relevance.

To ensure that the WGIA continues to play a strategic role in the technical coordination of public adaptation actions, the following actions will be implemented under the First Work Program of the current plan:

Review the composition of the WGIA to ensure the participation of all Ministries and public management areas identified in the Spanish Climate Change Adaptation Plan (PNACC) 2021-2030.
Ensure, whenever possible, non-presential participation modalities to facilitate broader attendance in meetings.
Improve the transparency of the body by providing information about its members and activities.

The Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC), as coordinator of the PNACC, serve as the WGIA’s technical secretariat.

The Chartered Community of Navarre has actively participated in the various calls issued by the OECC within the Directorate General for the Environment. The technical staff of the integrated European project LIFE-IP NAdapta-CC, and in particular Itziar Almarcegui Artieda and Miguel Ángel González Moreno, who since 2021 have established themselves as key points of reference due to their knowledge and experience in adaptation matters in Navarrese lands.
